Drive-Thru Review: Burger King Grilled Hot Dogs
Sometimes in life you gotta put on your helmet, buckle up your bootstraps and dive into the trenches. When I started blogging I never knew it was going to put my body in imminent danger. But that's my burden. This is what I signed up for. Some may call me a modern day Morgan Spurlock; risking life and liver in a world filled with salmonella and norovirus to bring our followers the latest in fast food...But I'm no hero. We do this for the common man. We do this for the man sitting on his couch watching TV, wondering "hey, I wonder if that new chalupaburritoburger from Taco Bell is any good?" Well ladies and gentlemen, that's why we're here. Introducing #MoviesandFood Drive-Thru Reviews. We'll be reviewing whatever's hot in the streets...even if it kills us.
In the inaugural Drive-Thru Review, we taste tested the Grilled Hot Dogs from Burger King. Terrifying. Being a notch above gas station hot dog, I set the bar pretty low for this review and I survived so that's always a plus in my book and to be completely honest, it wasn't half bad. It was actually a decent dog.
And not just “good for Burger King hot dog,” but good in general. Of course, when writing fast food reviews, you have to have a reasonable expectation for just how good a Dunkin Donuts Burrito or McDonalds rack of ribs can plausibly be, but this time, there’s no need for qualifiers.
The wieners are supplied by Oscar Meyer and BK claims they're 100% beef hot dogs flamed grilled to perfection. You can go with either the Classic ($1.99) or the Chili Dog ($2.39). I opted for the Classic because I as much as I enjoy sitting on the toilet and living life on the edge, I thought it would be smart to take the safe route on this one. I'm more of a mustard/relish guy myself but The Classic comes topped with mustard, ketchup, relish and chopped onions. Like most fast food...check that...ALL fast food, it looked 100% better on TV so I wasn't too surprised that the dog looked like it was assembled by my 7 year old nephew. It was kinda burnt (flamed grilled indeed) and drowned in relish so much so that I had to scrape some off the top. On a positive note, the dog had a decent snap to it which is key for any hot dog connoisseur. It wasn't nearly as big as I would of liked but definitely was flamed grilled and had the authentic BK grill marks to back it up. I would definitely need at least two of these to fill me up but as a quick bite it'll do the trick.
This is no fad people, the BK dog is here to stay and the numbers back it up as it has quickly become there most popular new selling item in years. By no means am I saying pass up Elliot's for one of these, but if you find yourself stuck at a BK Drive-Thru, don't be afraid to substitute your Whopper and double fist a pair of these.
