Sleeper Movie Monday Presents:
The Hunted (2003)
From 2003 we have an action/thriller for Sleeper Movie Monday this week. The Hunted stars Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro and in my opinion is a very underrated movie. The movie is set in the woods of Oregon where a former Special Forces soldier whos gone AWOL has decided to start hunting people for fun. The FBI turns to a retired survival specialist named L.T. Bonham (Jones) to put a stop to the madness. Jones and Del Tro put on a thrilling cat a mouse game throughout the film. I’m always a fan of when Benicio plays a villain. He pulls it off very well, which I can only assume is because of that accent. Anyways, solid film and a true sleeper.

P.S. When are they going to turn The Most Dangerous Game into a blockbuster movie? This movie sort of gives you that vibe. It’s such a creepy plot line and if you casted the right people it would make for a sick movie. I don’t know why these great ideas fall on deaf ears

The House I Live In (2007)
Fuck Mondays. Thankfully we're diving back into the world of documentaries for this week’s Sleeper Movie Monday. First thing’s first though. Conor McGregor evens up the score with Nate Diaz after one of the best fights I’ve ever witnessed. The King is back- and all is right in the world. But I digress.. The House I Live In is an eye opening (and in my opinion must see) 2012 documentary about the war on drugs in the United States. Started by notorious fuckface Richard Nixon in the 70’s, the “War on Drugs” continues to be prevalent today.
From the drug dealers in the street to the Judges in the courtroom and everything in between, this documentary touches on just about every aspect of the War on Drugs and what it’s doing to our beautiful country. This film is captivating, gripping, but also fucking frustrating. Lotttttta people getting fucked over by this “war” for years. But now that M&F exists, I feel a change in the winds..
Really interesting stuff in this film, but to me most of all is its relevance. Here at M&F, we enjoy the simple things in life. Like couches, burgers, beers, and human rights. Give it a watch sometime.

Fracture (2007)
A real delight for Sleeper Movie Monday today. From 2007 comes a magnificent thriller, Fracture. Starring Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling or "The Gos" as we like to call him, Fracture keeps you on edge throughout the whole film. Gos plays a rising attorney with his sights set on the big time. Before he moves onto his comfy new big shot firm, he's got a seemingly open and shut case to deal with. Hopkins is the defendant, and from the moment the trial begins Gosling soon realizes he's in a mental chess match that he might not be able to win. Hopkins and Gosling play off each other phenomenally and it's a really fun cat and mouse game to watch. Check it out if you haven't already.

Tremors (1990)
In honor of the prestigious Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens premiering last night on the Scy Fy channel, I thought it was pertinent we stick with the genre for this week’s Sleeper Movie Monday. From the year 1990 comes the ever satisfying movie about giant earthworm like monsters embedded deep underground wreaking havoc on the small town of Perfection. Tremors is a movie of serious nostalgia for me. I was way too young when I first saw this movie, and that probably explains why I turned out so perfectly normal right? I was binge watching movies like Tremors and Jaws before I could form coherent sentences, being molded into the M&F critic I’ve become today.. At least that’s what I tell myself.
A small town deep in the vast desert being terrorized by underground monsters, how can you say no? Tremors is a flick that offers action, humor, and suspense, the cornerstones of any solid scy fy movie. Leading this cast was our man Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward (Kyle’s dad from Road Trip) In a time where special effects weren’t quite yet as special as they evolved into, characters would make or break a film. You have these two compadres Burt and Valentine (Bacon and Ward) who make up for what the other lacks. Partners in every sense of the word. Then there's the wildcard and my personal favorite, Burt. Burt seems like he’s every 2nd Amendment fanatic's wet dream. He owns countless guns and does not give a FUCK what you think about him. Aside from that you get the love interest with a witty sense of humor, something all men should appreciate and strive to attain in a tavern wench.
The best part of this movie has got to the final act. All hope is lost.. Then you get an absolute LEGENDARY move by Mr. Kevin Bacon. Can’t say I was surprised though. Bacon doing Bacon things.
M&F Rating: a HARD 7.2

Road Trip (2000)
Who doesn’t love just packin into a car with your buddies and hitting the open road with no agenda but to make some sick twisted memories? From the year 2000 comes this week’s Sleeper Movie Monday, Road Trip. I think its safe to safe to say this is a movie that’s probably dear to all of our hearts. It’s absolutely loaded with comedy. You could make an argument for each character in terms of “stealing the show”. But for me, it’s gotta be Tom Green. Back in 2000 Tom Green was still on top of the world I think. Just an absolute weirdo but you couldn’t deny the humor that came from it. But like I said, everybody in this film really brought their A game. Sean William Scott, king of playing the cocky asshole party animal, is always a fan favorite and it was no different in Road Trip. Then theres DJ Qualls, who plays Kyle, and his scene at the black fraternity. The whole movie is just a snowball of laughter.
This is one of those movies you start quoting like a madman with your friends when you’re all fucked up, which in my opinion makes it a timeless classic. Something that always bugged me though. I always thought Tiffany takes it way too well in the final scene. She 1000% was the dorm room swamp donkey. That girl who the first week of college says she loves her boyfriend so much to all her friends and then on Thursday night she's shoulder deep in the the football team’s junk. Just my humble opinion, Josh dodged a bullet on her.

Natural Born Killers (1994)
From writer Quentin Tarantino and director Oliver Stone comes a movie that is both a visionary pleasure and a delightful dose of lunacy.. Natural Born Killers came out in 1994 and has a cast that went on to do some really great movies. Starring Woody Harrelson, Juliette Lewis, Robert Downey Jr, and Tom Sizemore (is he sober again?), Natural Born Killers is your classic storybook romance about a man and a woman. Mickey Knox and Mallory Wilson, just a couple of crazy kids lookin for love. These two both have pretty horrendous childhoods so what do you think happens? Well I wish I could try and trick you but the name of the movie kind of fucks me there. These two grow up to be a couple of absolute fuckin phsychos. They travel across the country and go on a MASSIVE killing spree. What happens as a result from this nationwide killing spree is the national media becoming unwaveringly obsessed with the killers. This obsession proves to be harmful in the worst way possible.
A fucking men. Here at M&F, we pride ourselves in seeing through the smoke and mirrors that the Mainstream Media induces. The media is a fucking frenzy and I for one am not a fan. Say a real life Mickey Knox and Mallory Wilson pop up and start straight merking people across the country. The media would EAT. THAT. SHIT. UP. and I guarantee the weirdos would come out of the woodworks to start selling merchandise and trying to make a buck off it. It’s a pretty disturbing thing how mainstream media responds to violence, which unfortunately in today’s world has all too many examples. So join M&F and lets wisen up the media trying to turn us into sheep.

Eastern Promises (2007)
Do you enjoy movies about mobsters? Dark secrets and Imminent danger? Do you enjoy a bunch of dudes having an all out melee in a public shower? Wait what? From 2007 comes this weeks Sleeper Movie, Eastern Promises. Starring Viggo Mortensen and Naomi Watts, Eastern Promises is different kind of crime/thriller flick. It revolves around a powerful Russian mob family and the innocence that gets trampled on by the ominous underworld of these criminals. Long story short, Viggo’s character, Nikolai, finds himself between a rock and a hard place. He is the driver for the crime family, and close friend of the boss’ son. But he isn’t as cold and calculating as the other members. Nikolai crosses paths with a London midwife (Watts) who is on a mission to find out the fate of a young girl who died during child birth. Long story short: The two find themselves immersed in a mob family shitstorm from then on. Makes you not want to visit London anytime soon.
I loved this movie for one main reason, Viggo Mortensen’s performance. I wasn’t joking about the shower scene. He has an absolutely legendary showing in a fight for his life, he just happens to be naked the whole time. As a Lord of the Rings diehard, I wasn’t mad about it. But I digress.. Mortensen gives such a genuine performance in his character, Nikolai, it really shows what lengths he went to for the role. Nobody likes when an actor straight up BUTCHERS a foreign accent. It can really put a damper on a character (see Martin Sheen in Departed) and Russian doesn’t look like a picnic to elarn. However, we don’t see this problem in Viggo. Not. One. Bit. He completely envelops the role of Russian Mobster. His quiet demeanor, the badass tattoos, everything. I thought he really went above and beyond for this role and the movie merits a watch because of his performance alone. But even aside from Viggo’s brilliance, the movie is brilliant.

Warrior (2011)
I don’t know about you guys but all I did today was count down the minutes until I could rewatch “Battle of the Bastards”. What a fuckin episode. I can legit barely give Sleeper Movie Monday the effort it deserves but I’m gonna do my best for you guys. From 2011 starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, and Nick Nolte comes “Warrior”. To sum it up, Warrior is a movie that will jack you up. Often times in movies that revolve around the art of boxing or MMA the fight scenes are just awful. No matter how good the rest of the movie is the actual fight scenes just come up short sometimes. This is not the case in Warrior. Really fine choreography outta the two main stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton.
The pair play estranged brothers who’s paths eventually cross when they both fight in an MMA tournament for completely different reasons. Edgerton is the lesser bad ass of the two brothers, but still a character you find yourself rooting for because hes a good guy down to his core. Tom Hardy steals the show though. In classic Tom Hardy fashion, his character is a man of very few words whereas his actions speak absolute volumes. A really great story and a very enjoyable movie.

Blue Streak (2001)
Another weekend in the books means another Sleeper Movie Monday. This week, I think it’s safe to say we’re due for a comedy. Lots of fucked up stuff going on in the world. M&F is here to remind you laughter can sometimes be the best medicine during dark times such as these. Fire up the peace pipe, and geek out to your favorite comedy.
Coming out in 1999 is a Martin Lawrence classic. One of the kings of comedy, Martin Lawrence, is joined by Luke Wilson and fellow comedic juggernaut Dave Chappelle in the crime/comedy movie Blue Streak. Lawrence plays a jewel thief who hides his biggest steal ever, a giant diamond, in an abandoned warehouse upon his arrest. When he’s released a few yeasr later he has one mission: find that fucking diamond. Things take an unexpected turn when he finds out that warehouse he hid the diamond in, is now a police headquarters. Thus begins the characters journey of his character posing as an LAPD detective until he can locate his booty.
This is an awesome late 90’s comedy. Martin Lawrence’s unique style of delivering jokes and his character’s over confidence is combined so well with Luke Wilson’s ability to play a dimwitted moron that the two really steal the show. Their back and forth banter provides for some gold moments on screen. It’s an easy watch and is gaurenteed to give you some laughs. Give it a shot.

Sleeper Movie Monday Presents: American Psycho
Another week begins which means another SleeperMovie Monday. I have to admit, having responsibilities yesterday for Mother’s Day was not the easiest thing in the world. Sure, you can call me an asshole, a bad son, but it was Sunday. Sunday’s are my day. I have no problem doting on my mom on any other day. But Sunday, really? The only thing that go me through the day was knowing I would get to lose myself in in a better world once 9:00 arrived. But anyways, back to SleeperMovie Monday. This week I decided to go with a movie that I’m sure many of us can relate to on a Monday afternoon, American Psycho.
American Psycho came out back in 2000 and stars Christian Bale and Justin Theroux. We’ve seen Bale go to great lengths for his roles and this movie is no different. You’ve got to admire a man who takes his craft so seriously. Bale plays an intelligent businessman who works by day on Wall Street adding to his already massive wealth that he inherited. He seems to have the world by the balls. However, when Bale’s not making his millions on Wall Street, he’s getting in touch with his psychotic, blood thirsty, violent side. The movie does a solid job with taking seemingly normal every day situations (going out to lunch with a coworker etc) and tying them into the insane thoughts that Patrick Bateman (Bale) has in his head during these moments. I found myself looking forward to the next psychotic like a giddy little school girl. Maybe that says a lot about me as a human being, or maybe that says a lot about Christian Bale as an actor. Either way, the book is an all time classic and the movie did not disappoint.

Sleeper Movie Monday Presents: Wartorn 1861-2010
(2010)
It's Monday, it's shitty out, and your boy Hutch has been scratching and clawing to do as close to nothing as humanly possible while in the cube. We all know the feeling. This day/week just needs end. Luckily Monday has one hidden gem to offer, the SleeperMovie. This week for SleeperMovie Monday we dive back into the world of documentaries. WarTorn: 1861-2010 is an HBO Documentary from 2010 that I recently gave a watch this weekend. PTSD has been called soldier’s heart, battle fatigue, shell shock, and many other things throughout the years. Up until quite recently, nobody really understood it or the tremendous effects it has on a soldier. This documentary does a phenomenal job of portraying what a soldier goes through during war no matter what the time period. The weapons and technology may differ, but the horrors of the battlefield that scar soldiers for life are all connected. Through personal accounts of Veterans through the years, Wartorn offers a really unique look at the invisible scars that are left when the “lucky” ones make it home. I was a big fan of this documentary, and I’m not ashamed to admit wiping away a tear or seven during my viewing. Give it a watch and do what you can to spread awareness.
Apologies for the seriousness of this post, I can get pretty sensitive at the end of the day.

Sleeper Movie Monday Presents: Religulous
(2008)
First and foremost I would like to apologize for last week’s non-existant SleeperMovie. I’m sure it really tore everybody up. So after a week off I return well rested and locked and loaded with a good ole fashioned Doc for you guys. From 2008 and from Director Larry Charles (Borat) comes a different kind of comedy/documentary, Religulous. For anyone who considers themselves a religious person, this movie is probably is not for you and will probably offend you at some point. If it doesn’t, good for you.
That being being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Religulous when I stumbled upon it on Netflix a few years ago at 3 in the Morning.. While I see nothing wrong with a little faith, organized religion just doesn’t seem like a cool time. Half of us grow up in catholic schools but theres a reason you get away from it. Theres just too much fuckery to be found in organized religion. No thank you. Here at M&F we don’t like to be told what to believe in. That’s why the only religion we identify with is the couch religion. Anyways, I agree with the point Maher sets out to make.
Make no mistake about it, this is a one sided argument, but I think it’s one that makes a whole lotta sense. Maher interviews believers of all different faiths and sets out to debunk the myths within them while at the same time making the point that maybe organized religion is more detrimental to society than people realize. It’s an intriguing topic and I thought Maher, while unfair to almost everyone he interviewed, was a solid comedic host (such a liberal pussy, I know). Although I enjoyed him, I could see how people would be offended by Maher in this movie, I guess. Well there you have it. MoviesandFood gets Relgulous for a night.

SleeperMovie Monday Presents: Vision Quest
(1985)
SleeperMovie Monday is back with one of my favorite movies from the 80’s. Vision Quest came out in during 1985, which coincidently was one of Boston’s best years in Sports as a City. Vision Quest was directed by Harold Becker and stars Matthew Modine and Linda Fiorentino. Aside from playing Joker from Full Metal Jacket, this is probably my favorite Matthew Modine performance.
Vision Quest is about a talented High School wrestler Louden Swain. It’s Louden’s Senior year in High School and he wants to do something great. He wants to do something that nobody thinks he can do. Against the wishes of his couch and even his father, Louden decides to cut from 190 lbs to 168 lbs so he can wrestle the defending state champion that nobody can fuck with, Shute. Shute’s character can be correlated to that of Ivan Drago. A beheamouth of an athlete who nobody seems to be in the same league with.
Coupled with Louden Swain’s mission to take out Shute and do something extraordinary, Louden finds himself falling for a drifter (Linda Fiorentino, Dogma). A tale as old as time, his feelings for this girl leads to a mission to get in her pants..which begins to get in the way of his Vision Quest.
It was a fun ride to join Louden throughout his journey to take on Shute. I thought the film did a decent job at showing the health detriments to cutting that much weight, but thought they could have focused a bit more it. I felt like they could have made cutting that much weight that short amount of time a little more realistic/dramatic. Throughout this film you meet a variety of interesting and unique characters which kept the movie refreshing for me. A true 1980’s soundtrack was a plus as well. Keep your eyes peeled for the swamp donkey of all swamp donkeys, Madonna, for a cameo.
M&F Rating: 6.8

Secret In Their Eyes
(2015)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/323188640.png?451)
St. Paddy’s day is over and the NCAA Tourney is in full swing. Save for the fact that 3 out of 4 of my brackets had MSU winning it all the tourney has been nothing short of amazing thus far. Half court shots beating the buzzers and upset city left and right. Aside from my accumulating debt, it’s a great time to be alive..
For this week’s SleeperMovie Monday I give you a Mystery/Thriller from 2015. Secret In Their Eyes stars Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Dean Norris. Secret In Their Eyes is one of those movies where flashbacks/flashforwards are prominent (2002, 2015) If that’s something you can’t deal with, stay away from this one. Roberts and Ejiofor play two tight knit detectives who’s friendship and partnership are unraveled after they arrive on a crime scene where Robert’s daughter is found raped and murdered. 13 years later, Ejiofor returns to re open the case because of new evidence he has found. His loyalty to his former partner will pull him down a rabbit hole that he wishes he hadn’t gone down.
Right away you could get sold on a cast like this, but is there anything more frustrating than a movie with an electric cast that turns out to be a dud? Probably, but it’s still fucking infuriating. I don’t want to put this movie in that category because I did enjoy it, but the speed of the movie was detrimental. It’s a mystery/thriller so there’s some great twists and turns, but I was geared up to move at a faster pace.

SleeperMovie Monday Presents: The Boxer (1997)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/2036268.jpg?328)
With St Patrick’s Day looming around the corner, I undoubtedly had to go with a film that had some quality Irish ties to it for this weeks SleeperMovie. From the beautiful year of 1997 comes The Boxer. Daniel Day Lewis portrays an Irish boxer named Danny Flynn who was put away for an IRA related crime for 14 years. When he’s released he’s in his 30’s with nothing really going for him. Danny has to rebuild his entire life amidst the chaotic and tumultuous environment of Belfast that’s ravaged by political violence for decades.
Although it’s called The Boxer, this movie has a lot to offer aside from the boxing aspect. You get a little love story, but you also get to dive into the situation in Ireland. The shit that’s been going down in the homeland is scary stuff. It’s a straight up civil war in Northern Ireland. As a result of my strong Irish heritage I’m always intrigued by a movie that’ll incorporate the IRA and what’s happening in there. Aside from The Devil’s Own, The Boxer may be my favorite Irish movie that’s been made.
To no surprise at all, Daniel Day Lewis steals the show in The Boxer. In my opinion he is the best and most talented actor in all of Hollywood. Nobody embodies or becomes a character like Daniel Day Lewis. Nothing he does is going to be half-assed. You’re going to get 150% out of him with every role he takes. It’s no different in The Boxer. He gives one of the purest performances of a boxer that you’ll see in Hollywood. The way he moves and the way he punches he just looks like he had been boxing his whole life. He’s just awesome to watch. No way around it.

SleeperMovie Monday Presents:
Dogtown and the Z-Boys
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/_132553303.png?474)
As the sun was shining upon my tear filled face on my drive to work this morning I thought to myself, “Hey Hutch, only 30 more years of doing something you have absolutely no interest in.” Which oddly enough didn’t turn my morning around. That’s when today’s sleeper movie hit me. “Dogtown and the Z-Boys (2001) is a documentary about the revolutionary Zephyr Skating team that transformed skateboarding throughout the 1970s-90s. You may know them better as “The Lords of Dogtown” from the 2005 film. Back in the 70’s when the surf sucked a few bros would turn to skateboarding as an alternative to pass the time.
Over the years, skaters/surfers like Tony Alva, Jay Adams, and Stacey Peralta would alter the skateboarding spectrum forever. Imitating the freestyle surfing moves they watched and performed their whole lives, they turned skateboarding from a land bound pastime into the extreme and acrobatic present that we know today. Without Dogtown and the Z-Boys, we wouldn’t have half the exciting shit you see in the X-games now. One of the only things I know about skateboarding is to choose Rodney Mullen if you’re playing Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. That being said, I learned a lot from this doc and I highly recommend it even if you aren’t into skateboarding. Good doc to get inspired and find your passion. Might just walk out of the office right now and follow my own dreams. What could go wrong?
I’ll always take the doc over Hollywood. Doc M&F rating: 7.4

SleeperMovie Monday Presents: Green Street Hooligans
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/107415936.png?463)
What a weekend. What a night of fights Saturday had to offer. If you like taking underdogs then you made a fuckload of money on those fights. I’m still not over the loss, but I ate so much yesterday that I’m starting to feel like myself again. In honor of such a memorable night of fights I’m going with a violent #sleepermovie for this week. From 2005 I give you a movie that I got borderline dangerously obsessed with as a senior in high school, Green Street Hooligans. Starring the UK badass/heartthrob himself, Charlie Hunnam, and Elijah Wood (your welcome middle earth). After Matt (Wood) gets expelled from Harvard he goes across the pond to visit his big sister in London and get away from all the bullshit. After he arrives, he soon finds himself thrown in the midst of the chaotic world of football clubs and the hooligans that follow them. Honestly one of my favorite movies of all time. Theres just something about it. Word of advice: you probably should try and avoid drinking and watching this movie.. nothing good will happen, I promise.

SleeperMovie Monday Presents: Murderball
I'm not gonna lie to you guys. I’m 90% positive I have some sort of untreatable virus that’s taking the life from me minute by minute. The fact that I’m even blogging right now is a true testament to my own personal will power. For this week’s#sleepermoviemonday we go back to 2005. Murderball is a fascinating documentary about the intense and widely unknown rivalry between the U.S. and Canadian Quadripalegic Rugby teams as the Paralympic Games in Athens approaches.
Talk about a documentary to really put your pathetic minute problems in perspective (not counting my illness). Many of these guys have had to go through more adversity than any one man should. But do they want you feeling sorry for them? Fuck no, these athletes are straight SAVAGES. They’re possessed out there on that rugby court. NO regard for their own well being, just getting shit done. The competitive nature and drive in these guys is legitimately an inspiring thing to watch. As you watch these guys go, you realize how your “problems” in life aren’t exactly real problems. Life is all about perspective and a documentary like Murderball is a prime example of that. Fair warning, the room might get a bit dusty at times, so have some Kleenex handy. M&F rating: 7.8 |
SleeperMovie Mondays:
Changing Lanes (2002)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/782593733.png?615)
Another Monday is in the books. I would like to start off by saying how about that fucking Walking Dead episode last night? AMC wasting no time starting part II of this season off. I feel like it was the episode I have been waiting years for. No more running away and trying to save face. Just a flat out last stand like you read about.
Anyways, this week’s sleepermoviemonday comes from 2002. Changing Lanes stars Ben Affleck with his award winning 5 oclock shadow, and the man who’s in virtually every film, Samuel L Jackson. The two men have their respective world’s intertwined when they collide in traffic. Both men have court appointments for completely different reasons but its imperative for each that they don’t miss said appointments. When Ben fucks over Samuel L and causes him to miss his appointment, a personal feud ensues between the two men.
This is a fun thriller to watch, but it is one of the more angry movies ive ever watched. It’s safe to say rage is the common theme in this film, and for you hippies out there who are all about positive vibes, (greg) then this movie won’t be for you.

SleeperMovie Mondays: Eurotrip

Footballs over, the forecast calls for snow for the next 3 days.. Things are looking bleak my friends. VERY tough to feel inspired today, but as always we are here for you.
I think today’s misery calls for an uplifting SMM. So from 2004 I give you the comedy Eurotrip. I remember being in 8th grade and falling in love with this movie. Every now and then when it’s on tv I’ll give it a watch for an hour or so. A lot of dumb humor but if you can take the movie for what it is, it’s an enjoyable comedy. Everyone remembers the song “Scotty Doesn’t Know” and for me personally it takes me back to a much simpler time.. a time when I didn’t have “responsibilities” and “bills”.. A time when I didn’t have to be “reliable”. Anyways, Eurotrip stars Scott Mechlowicz and Michelle Trachtenburg and is perfect for that random weeknight when there’s nothing else on. M&F Rating: 5.7

SleeperMovie Monday: Appaloosa
(2008)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/250575247.png?529)
Happy February everybody. I would be thrilled but last year we got pummeled with snow this month. And I swear to the old gods and the new that if it happens again this year I am boycotting life. Anyways, we have ourselves a nice #sleepermoviemonday for you guys. Appaloosa came out back in 2008 and was directed by well known badass, Ed Harris. Joining Harris in Appaloosa is Ant-Eater look a like Renee Zellweger, Jeremy Irons, and a man who is very dear to my heart, Viggo Mortensen.
Ed and Viggo play two lawmen hired by a small town to restore some justice after a local rancher/gunman (Irons) starts doing whatever he damn well pleases in the town. Things get even more complicated when a widow comes to town(Zellweger, gross) catching the attention of both lawmen.
I’ve always been a fan of Westerns. Maybe it’s because I could see myself acclimate to those times so easily. Riding Horses, kicking open swinging soloon doors, the endless tavern wenches.. But the main reason I enjoy this movie so much is the dialogue between Harris and Mortensen. The relationship between the two is very unique, both men being loyal to a fault. If you didn’t have a fellow cowboy backing you up in those days, you were as good as dead, trust me.

SleeperMovie Monday: Enemy at the Gates
(2001)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/391544735.png?345)
Maybe we win that game in overtime if Gostowski hits that extra point. But if I give the game the thought it deserves right now I will legitimately kill myself. That is not a joke, it’s a promise. Moving on to this weeks #sleepermoviemonday I give you Enemy At the Gates.
Enemy at the Gates is based on the "true" story of two snipers, one Russian, one German, at the Battle of Stalingrad. If you’re into History, you know that Stalingrad was one of the most significant battles for the entire War. If Stalingrad fell, it would mean Russia’s inevitable defeat by the Germans. A young Russian peasant (Law) named Vassili Zaitsev joins up as millions of other young men at the time did.Vassili was taught at a young age by his grandfather how to shoot, and he had a knack for it. When he is sent to Stalingrad to improve morale for the Russians, Vassili begins to methodically pick off German targets with reckless abandon. He is so devastating, that the Germans bring in their own badass sniper, Major Konig (Harris), to take him out.
Thus begins a chess game between the two sharpshooters. One man, a weathered combat veteran who is head of the Berlin Sniper School. The other, a poor young farmer. Both men, fighting for the futures of their countries. Being a movie about snipers, Enemy At The Gates is full of suspense. Although it is based on the true story of the sniper battle between the two sides, the historical accuracy of the movie is suspect. There is a love story in there that made me want to club a baby seal, but other than that it is a solid watch.

SleeperMovie Monday: The Last Samurai
(2003)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/240313983.png?611)
Another Monday in the books means yet another sleeper movie! From 2003 I give you the Last Samurai starring Tom Cruise and Ken Watanabe. Cruise plays a U.S. Military Advisor who is hired to destroy the Samurai. After he’s captured, he becomes enlightened and realizes maybe he’s on the wrong side of the fight. I’m a big fan of movies that incorporate sword fighting because I consider myself an expert in that area. At least 70% of my day consists of wielding an imaginary sword working on my technique for the day when the grid goes down and worldwide anarchy ensues. That percentage was around 98% before I hit puberty, but I digress.
I can remember when The Last Samurai came out. My friend @rayjean28 was so excited to watch a movie depicting his heritage he even dressed up in full blown Samurai regalia. However, I couldn’t judge him because of how good the movie turned out. Top knotch fight scenes with the right amount of gore. As for Tom Cruise, I’m not sure how I feel about this guy. On one hand, he’s a fucking nutbag. He believes in Scientology. That fact alone would normally make hate somebody for being that stupid. BUT, this guy comes out with some FIRE movies-The Edge of Tomorrow, Tropic Thunder, War of the Worlds, The Last Samurai, and say what you want about the MI franchise but those movies are as entertaining as an action movie is going to get. So he might belong in the loony bin, but here at M&F we respect talent, and I guess, we respect crazy too.

SleeperMovie Monday: The Tillman Story
(2010)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/113374998.png?344)
It may be a new year, but M&F changed virtually nothing. Because if It ain’t broke, dont fix it. For our first #sleepermoviemonday post of 2016 I’m dipping back into the Doc archive. The Tillman Story is a documentary from 2010 about Pat Tillman’s death. As everyone should already know, Tillman was an NFL player who gave up a multi-million dollar contract to serve his country in the aftermath of September 11th. This guy is the definition of a patriot. He joined because it was the right thing to do, nothing more. Tillman was of course tragically killed in 2004 and according The Tillman Story this could have been avoided. What’s almost as tragic is the propaganda job the U.S. Army did as a result of Tillman’s death. Now let me be perfectly clear, M&F isn’t trying to break into the political sphere, but this doc will get you thinking. A really great watch, but not much happiness in this documentary. Welcome to 2016, a year of depressing blogs. ▪️M&F Rating: 8.6
SleeperMovie Monday: Blade II
(2002)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/6127582.jpg?381)
Woof. Once again trying to combat the Sunday Scaries with copious amounts of wine is making for quite the miserable Monday. But its lunchtime and that means the day is halfway over. So keep your heads up! The couch is so near. For this weeks#sleepermoviemonday pick we go back to 2002 from one of my personal favorite directors, Guillermo Del Toro. In my opinion Blade 2 is the best of the entire Trilogy. Blade returns as the daywalking Vampire who has one thing on his mind: fuck up all the other vampires out there. In Blade 2 however, The main antagonist is one of those badasses who you can’t help but root for, even if he is out to get our boy Blade. It’s one of those movies where you really don’t mind if the good guy wins or bad guy wins because you have to respect baddassery. A supporting cast of Norman Reedus, Ron Pearlman, and Kris Kristofferson provide even more star-power for this movie which will keep you very entertained throughout. You’ll find classic Blade one liners and more action than you can fucking chew. If you’re not a fan of sci-fy kind of movies, this probably isn’t the movie for you. And if that’s the case, then go fuck yourself. Special dedication of this movie goes out to

We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas weekend. Granted it felt like we were having Christmas in April around here. It was still a successful Christmas for M&F and we hope it was for you as well. Moving on from the magic of Christmas we have another#sleepermoviemondays for you. Soaked in Bleach is a documentary I recently watched about the death of Nirvana front-man, Kurt Cobain through the eyes of a Private Investigator hired by Courtney Love days before Cobain’s death.
Tom Grant, a former LA County Sherriff’s Detective, offers his perspective about the 1994 case and it’s crazy. He’s hired by Courtney and immediately his feels something is off. Ends up recording EVERYTHING as a result. As we all know, his death was ruled a suicide but there was VERY shady stuff going on with Courtney. Soaked in Bleach is a good watch for anyone who enjoys a conspiracy theory now and again. I’ve made my own conclusions based off what I saw in this documentary. The only con about it was the occasional reenactment. Not a huge fan of those in documentaries.

Happiest of Mondays to you hooligans. The fat man is 4 days away and It’s a short week this week. This should be enough to get you to power through your work week and get to Christmas bliss. But I know it isn’t. SO, here is this weeks #sleepermoviemondays for that little extra push. Black Sea came our fairly recently back in 2014 stars Jude Law along with a bunch of other UK actors who make for a badass cast.
Jude Law plays a recently fired submarine captain who’s hired by some shady dudes to investigate a sunken Nazi U-boat that is loaded with Nazi gold. We’re talking millions and millions of dollars. Captain Jude compiles a crew of Russians and Brits and tells them when they find the treasure, everyone gets an equal share after the Financial Backer gets his cut. As you would imagine, the temptation of getting rid of the other sailors in order to obtain an even greater share of the gold is prevelant in everyone on board. Strap yourselves in.

SleeperMovie Mondays is back with an action adventure/sci-fi from 2005. The Island stars Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson and in my opinion offers a plotline that our kids generation are probably going to have to live through. The year is 2019 and McGregor and Johansson are two inhabitants of a seemingly Utopian society. All the inhabitants on this island hope desperately for a chance to be chosen to be sent to “The Island” which they are told is the last uncontaminated place on Earth. However, Lincoln Six Echo (McGregor) and Jordan Two Delta (Johansson) will come to find out that their Utopian society isn’t at all what they think it is.

Not much to say today.. It’s a Monday following a Pats loss..Gotta improve in all aspect of that game. Can’t dwell though. Season goes on and so does M&F.. This week’s#sleepermoviemondays is a late 90’s gem. The Devil’s Own came out in 1997 and stars our favorite Intergalactic rebel, Harrison Ford, and a man who needs absolutely no intro, Brad Pitt. Harris ford plays a New York cop/family man who agrees to house a visiting Irishman (Pitt) during his stay in New York. Unfortunately for Harrison, he has no idea that Pitt is a top IRA assassin who’s only in the U.S. to buy weapons for his fight back in Ireland. This movie provides your age old conflict of one man tied down duty while the other seems to be tied down by his destiny. Harrison Ford and Brad Pitt complement each other so well, but the best part of this movie is Pitt’s Irish accent. I am talking fire flames ladies. Check it out.

However, for now M&F is still in recovery mode like I’m sure many of you are as too. Well there’s something that goes perfect with recovery mode and that’s#sleepermoviemondays my friends. This week we have The Last Castle. It came out back in 2001 and stars the great Robert Redford, Mark Ruffalo, and James Gandolfini (RIP). It’s about a well respected 3 star General who unjustly gets sent to a Maximum Security Military Prison and comes to find the Warden who runs said prison is a corrupt piece of shit himself (just like the system that got him there!)And if I know one thing it’s that Robert Redford simply does not stand for injustice. This is an early 2000’s gem.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner I thought it would be fitting to pick a feel good movie for this week’s #sleepermoviemondays so that’s exactly what I didn’t do. Keeping people on their toes circa 1991. Beasts of No Nation is a straight to Netflix movie that’s about a child soldier in war ravaged-Africa. Think of blood diamond if they only followed Dia Vandy the whole time. This movie stars Idris Elba and a bunch of other talented yet I don’t know the name of actors. It’s an intense story, and if you wear your emotions on your sleeve like I do, you’ll probably have a tough time keeping it together following Agu’s story. All I can say is thank God we live in America. Awesome movie and you can find it on Netflix.

While we hope everybody had a blast this weekend, M&F was once again reminded of the perils that come along with leaving the couch. To sum it up shortly, too much can go wrong when leaving the house. Like playing telephone tag into the wee hours of the morning with a salty cab driver because you forgot your phone in his cab(like a fucking idiot). An expected bed time of 1:00am turned into 4:00 am and that’s just NOT how we roll. But I digress..#sleepermoviemondays is here with a Paul Walker special.
Running Scared came out back in 06’ and offers a stellar performance by Paul Walker. A lot of blood and profanity provides a plethora of entertainment in this Crime/Action Drama. Paul plays a thug whos assigned by his crime bosses to get rid of a gun that was used to kill some dirty cops. But guess what guys? Things don’t always go as planned! And things don’t go as planned for my man Paul, and his quest to get rid of the gun turns into quite the debacle for him. Check it out if you have any respect at all for good looking people in this world. RIP Paul.

We hope everybody had a fun, safe, and mostly lazy Halloween. I know I’m not alone when I say, fuck today. Fuck it so very, very hard. I find myself filled with a seemingly undying sadness today. Just wasn’t ready for the work week (probly won’t be til around Thursday) So as I sat pondering #sleepermovies for today I thought to myself, “what would cheer me up right now?” The answer: a gory Western movie.
Bone Tomahawk stars Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, and Matthew Fox aka our favorite spinal surgeon, Jack Shepherd. The movie focuses on the efforts of four men who attempt the rescue of (Wilson’s) wife who was kidnapped by a tribe of creepy cannibalistic Native Americans. Stealing the show was Kurt Russell and Matthew Fox, to no surprise. I was kept entertained throughout because of the gore, and also because I identify so well with Cowboys. For the record, yes I would have done very well in the Wild Wild West. Story of my life- born in the wrong generation.

Its November which means two things: 1) I hope you're growing a mustache 2) you're counting down the days until the long Thanksgiving weekend. And That means you probably are longing for movie suggestions.
Well holy shit thats what I'm here for guys!Per usual we are coming in hot for #sleepermoviemondays with Pacific Rim. From director Guillermo Del Toro and a cast that includes Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba this movie is truly a sleeper. I don't think it got much respect when it came out and that's bullshit. If alien sea monsters did attack us I would follow those two to the ends of the earth. Epic fight scenes and top knot have special effects makes for a very enjoyable experience.

SleeperMovie Monday: Assault In The Ring
(2008)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/2001955.jpg?588)
It's Monday. The weekend went by too quick. So here's something for #sleepermoviemondays that correlates with how we all felt today. Assault in the Ring revisits the controversial bout in 1983 between Welterweights Billy Collins and Luis Resto. The stage was set for the 2 prizefighters at Madison Square Garden.
The events that would unfold during their 30 minute "fight" would have lasting effects on both of them. After a grueling and tenacious fight, Resto emerges victorious. Only to find out his trainer removed the padding from his gloves, resulting in an inhumane beating of another fighter. Let me just say if you were looking for a feel good movie, this is the exact opposite. However, as far as sports documentaries go, Assault in the Ring goes toe to toe with them all.
M&F rating: 7.7

SleeperMovie Monday: The Guard
(2011)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/9886534.jpg?436)
For this week’s #sleepermoviemonday I give you a Crime/Comedy flick from 2011. The Guard stars a couple of studs in Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Both actors possess a plethora of range and this film is an example of that. Gleeson plays an Irish cop with a hostile attitude towards everything and everyone while Cheadle plays a “straight as an arrow” FBI agent. The two have to come together to investigate an international drug smuggling ring. Straight and simple plot line with ample laughs along the way. Always a big fan of Irish accents in movies too. Which is maybe something you didn’t know about me. Well now you do

SleeperMovie Monday: I Am Chris Farley
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/967038.jpg?535)
We made it through another Monday guys. Give yourselves a pat on the back. A slow week at M&F headquarters last week but we're coming in with fire flames this week, rest assured. This week’s #sleepermoviemonday really sets the tone. I am Chris Farley has its hilarious moments of course but also plays at the heart strings. Farley was one of a kind. No denying it, which is what drew me to this doc. This documentary did an awesome job not focusing on the "celebrity demons" that had a hand in his premature death. Much more emphasis on the person/comedian. A+ interviews with your favorite comedians from SNL over the years. If you're a fan of comedy, watch it, it's worth it.

SleeperMovie Monday: Wrong Turn
(2003)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/6757998.gif?475)
First off I want to apologize to the M&F faithfuls for no SleeperMovie last week. Ran into some tech problems but we figured it out. To make up for it I present #sleepermoviemonday with Wrong Turn. Starring Eliza Dushku and Emannuelle Chriqui (Sloan from Entorage) this has been a closet favorite of mine for awhile. Really makes you wanna go camping in the remote woods of West Virginia. The antagonists in this movie reminds me of my pal Greg when he doesn't get his nachos. So dim those lights and enjoy a real terror..

A late #sleepermoviemonday tonight but it's worth it. I give you: Dinosaur 13. This 2014 documentary depicts the 1990 discovery of the biggest and most complete T-Rex skeleton ever and the whirlwind of shit that follows for the people who found it. Well worth the watch if you’re into cool shit like T-rex’s,

SleeperMovie Monday: Without Limits
(1998)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/4618350.jpg?409)
We are back with #sleepermoviemondays and in honor of a M&F blogger moving up in the world and out of the post office, I'm happy to give you this very inspirational flick, Without Limits. Starring Donald Sutherland and Billy Crudup and released in '98, it's about Olympian Steve Prefontaine, one of the gutsiest runners to grace the games. Guys like him are why I never gave up hope in my desperation to escape the mail. Here's to you Pre.

SleeperMovie Monday: Disconnect
(2013)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/1488391.jpg?435)
Hope you all had a bitchin weekend. I know I sure did.(n't). And that's why this weeks #sleepermoviemonday is dark and depressing much like my everyday existence. From 2012 I give you Disconnect starring Jason Bateman and Alexander Skarsgard. It's about how dangerous and negative modern technology/communication can be for people. Fucked up stuff. But it was worth the watch.

SleeperMovie Monday: Murph The Protector
(2013)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/8368972.jpg?713)
Just watched a documentary that had me in tears throughout. Not about the battle itself, but more about the man who's responsible for at least one soldier making it out. Murph: The Protector. About U.S. Navy Seal Michael Murphy, one of the Seals who lost his life during Operation Red Wings. If there's anybody we should strive to be like, it's this man. Really hits home. Everybody should check it out.

SleeperMovie Monday: Up In The Air
(2009)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/9821683.jpg?720)
We're back with SleeperMovie Mondays ladies and gents. Up in the Air came out back in 2009(seniors!) Starring the ageless George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, and my second favorite woman in the world, Anna Kendrick. This Drama/Romance is just what the doctor ordered after a long and horrible Monday. Clooney plays a traveling business man who fires people for a living. He loves living his life with no real connections to anyone else. He's a man who will seemingly never make a change until the sassy Anna Kendrick comes into the picture. I loved every second of this flick

SleeperMovie Monday: Children of Men
(2006)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/9429638.jpg?695)
MoviesandFood is back with SleeperMovie Mondays! And I give you another gem. Children of Men came out in 2006 and with Clive Owen, Michael Cane and Julianne Moore it's a well acted movie. The plot is something different but I liked it. Imagine a world where chicks stopped getting pregnant. If this shit ever did go down I imagine it would happen exactly as this movie depicts.

SleeperMovie Monday: Sleepers
(1996)
![Picture](/uploads/7/3/8/8/73883741/1956646.jpg?338)
A true sleeper movie.. Get it? HA! But we are back at it again with SleeperMovie Monday and I'm sure to nobody's surprise, it doesn't disappoint. A throwback from 1996, Sleepers is about four friends who make a mistake that will change their lives forever. Starring Brad Pitt and Robert DeNiro and an electric supporting cast. A crime/drama/thriller with a pretty fucked up plot line that will keep you engaged and wanting more. A movie that you will find yourself rooting for certain characters against others which is always fun. Check it out. Did i mention Brad Pitt? Just making sure.
