March Madness is underway and we've already had our share of buzzer beaters and upsets last night. Even the greasy faced nerds from Yale got their mitts on an upset victory. Speaking of upsets, tipping off our 30 for 30 Elite Eight we have (8) Four Days in October vs (1) June 17, 1994.
The Case for Four Days in October: It's the story that shocked the world. It's chronicles the last four days of the improbable comeback staged by the Boston Red Sox in the 2004 ALCS versus the rival Yankees. It was the height of the Sox-Yankees rivalry and Down 3-0, the series was seemingly over, but instead it set up one of the most dramatic comebacks in MLB history, eventually lifting the "Curse of the Bambino", and ending 86 years of futility in Boston. From Dave Roberts infamous steal in Game 4 to the Big Papi walk offs, the behind the scenes footage and never say die attitude of the self proclaimed "Idiots"gives you chills every time.

The Case for June 17, 1994: It's a raw, aw inspiring look at the soul of American sports, from triumph to tragedy. Director Brett Morgan seamlessly weaves in and out of the wide array of sports events that make up this unforgettable day. Arnold Palmer played his final round at a U.S. Open, the World Cup began in Chicago, the NY Rangers celebrated their Stanley Cup victory, the Knicks and Rockets played Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Most famously, it was the day O.J. Simpson took his slow ride around the freeways of Southern California in a white Ford Bronco, holding a gun to his head.
The Verdict: Admittedly, I'm a Boston homer and have a bias towards Boston sports but I gotta give the nod to June 17, 1994. What makes the 30 for 30 documentaries great are the way they give you a different angle on familiar sports stories and June 17, 1994 definitely gives you that. With no narration, just raw uncut news clips, it bounces back and forth between the different events and let's you ride the emotions of that fateful day. Four Days in October had a flare for the dramatics but it didn't really provide anything new or groundbreaking.
