So moviesandfoods was one of the first to see the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice movie. If you’ve read some of my previous blogs, you know I’m not a big superhero movie fan (except the Dark Knight trilogy, those are amazing). Although I wasn’t blown away by this one, I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t have high expectations going in but I knew what I was getting into because my general opinion on superhero movies is the same as Mugatu’s opinion on Zoolander’s poses:, “It’s the same look! Am I taking crazy pills or something?!?!”… they’re all the same. They give you a brief, scattered back-story, then the Hero’s fight each other for a little bit like a bunch of teenage girls before joining forces to fight a common villain. And this film followed that exact outline.
I guess I was pleasantly surprised though because I did like it more than the last 12 Marvel films. But now that I think of it, I could just be so sick of Marvel that I enjoyed this movie a little more for having a some edge to it (although they did go a little over board on the dark ominous sounds a few times). Jesse Eisenberg did a good job with Lex Luther and thought he was the best part of the movie. The villain is always what makes or breaks a superhero movie. When he blew up the Capital building it was probably my favorite part of the movie.
Wonder Woman kind of stole the show as well. She got a standing ovation when she appeared on screen in the theater I saw it in. Although I wasn’t out of my seat I love the intensity and passion from the other viewers. They teased a few other DC hero’s that I could care less about in the film as well. Aquaman was kind of cool because Kal Drago is playing him but we all know Vinnie Chase is the real Aquaman. And they did it all wrong, you don’t start with Batman v Superman and tease lesser hero’s, you start with the B level hero’s then bring in the big guns.
So Lex Luther and Wonder Woman stole the show. I honestly didn’t care about Batman or Superman by the end of the film. Yeah they both had a few badass fight scenes, but that’s to be expected. Bruce Wayne even had a pretty cool training montage that almost made me think I was watching a Rocky movie before I realized the Rocky films would knock this movie out in round 1.
So that’s my take, I’ll give it a 5.1 because it was a little better than I had anticipated.
