▪️Brewer: @OxbrowPortland (Newcastle, ME)
▪️Beer: Farmhouse Pale Ale
▪️Style: Farmhouse/Saison Ale
▪️Alc. Content: 6.0% ABV
▪️The Verdict: the only thing I know about Maine is that I don't know anything about Maine. For research purposes, I made a trip craft beer paradise this weekend: Portland, Maine. The beer scene there is UNREAL. With 75 breweries in the state, most notably Allagash, Shipyard, Bissell Brothers and Rising Tide just to name a few, it's craft beer heaven and home to this week's craft beer, Oxbow Brewing's Farmhouse Pale Ale. Oxbow is an American farmhouse brewery specializing in traditional Belgian style ales. For this scoring at home, Farmhouse beers are most closely associated with Belgian-style beers, also known as “Saisons,”which are currently benefiting from a major revival among beer makers and drinkers.
If you're in Portland you can't avoid the popularity of Oxbows flagship brew. Oxbow Farmhouse Pale Ale is a staple amongst the many craft beer bars in the Portland area. You literally can't find a bar that doesn't carry it on tap and for good reason. It's not only local, it's fucking delicious. It pours a cloudy beeswax color, with a yeasty, earthy nose. You get big bready flavors with a pinch of, citrusy tartness. It's a great representation of the farmhouse style. If you're in the area check out there tasting room on the Eastside of the city.
