First and foremost I would like to apologize for last week’s non-existant SleeperMovie. I’m sure it really tore everybody up. So after a week off I return well rested and locked and loaded with a good ole fashioned Doc for you guys. From 2008 and from Director Larry Charles (Borat) comes a different kind of comedy/documentary, Religulous. For anyone who considers themselves a religious person, this movie is probably is not for you and will probably offend you at some point. If it doesn’t, good for you.
That being being said, I thoroughly enjoyed Religulous when I stumbled upon it on Netflix a few years ago at 3 in the Morning.. While I see nothing wrong with a little faith, organized religion just doesn’t seem like a cool time. Half of us grow up in catholic schools but theres a reason you get away from it. Theres just too much fuckery to be found in organized religion. No thank you. Here at M&F we don’t like to be told what to believe in. That’s why the only religion we identify with is the couch religion. Anyways, I agree with the point Maher sets out to make.
Make no mistake about it, this is a one sided argument, but I think it’s one that makes a whole lotta sense. Maher interviews believers of all different faiths and sets out to debunk the myths within them while at the same time making the point that maybe organized religion is more detrimental to society than people realize. It’s an intriguing topic and I thought Maher, while unfair to almost everyone he interviewed, was a solid comedic host (such a liberal pussy, I know). Although I enjoyed him, I could see how people would be offended by Maher in this movie, I guess. Well there you have it. MoviesandFood gets Relgulous for a night.
