St. Paddy’s day is over and the NCAA Tourney is in full swing. Save for the fact that 3 out of 4 of my brackets had MSU winning it all the tourney has been nothing short of amazing thus far. Half court shots beating the buzzers and upset city left and right. Aside from my accumulating debt, it’s a great time to be alive..
For this week’s SleeperMovie Monday I give you a Mystery/Thriller from 2015. Secret In Their Eyes stars Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Dean Norris. Secret In Their Eyes is one of those movies where flashbacks/flashforwards are prominent (2002, 2015) If that’s something you can’t deal with, stay away from this one. Roberts and Ejiofor play two tight knit detectives who’s friendship and partnership are unraveled after they arrive on a crime scene where Robert’s daughter is found raped and murdered. 13 years later, Ejiofor returns to re open the case because of new evidence he has found. His loyalty to his former partner will pull him down a rabbit hole that he wishes he hadn’t gone down.
Right away you could get sold on a cast like this, but is there anything more frustrating than a movie with an electric cast that turns out to be a dud? Probably, but it’s still fucking infuriating. I don’t want to put this movie in that category because I did enjoy it, but the speed of the movie was detrimental. It’s a mystery/thriller so there’s some great twists and turns, but I was geared up to move at a faster pace.
