So I finally dug into House of Cards season four and I crushed it over the weekend. Sunday it was 65 degrees and sunny so naturally I locked myself in my room, shut the blinds, and binge watched my boy Frank Underwood.
I have to be honest, I was a little nervous going into season 4. The first three season were FIRE, and I mean ABSOLUTE fire, but if you’re a seasoned binge watcher like myself you can always tell when the Wrap It Up Box needs to be pulled out on a series, and after the first couple episodes of season 4, I thought House of Cards had reached that point. After killing off Zoe Barnes (Kate Marra uhggg), Peter Russo, and writing off my boy Freddy (its awesome that Franks a foodie), Frank was carrying the show for a while, and don’t get me wrong Frank is an all-time character, but you can’t rely on one man to carry a whole show for more than a season or two. (I guess I can’t overlook Doug either, great character but he kind of lost his way for a while there.)
Claire is obviously another major character I need to mention, like I said I’m nine episodes into season 4, and I still cannot decide if I like Claire Underwood or not. I think Robin Wright does a fantastic job with the character but she certainly doesn’t carry the show like Frank. I think I decided that when her and Frank are getting along I like her, but when they are not she is a total bitch. That’s not to say I think she should just be Franks little puppet, I love how I’m absolutely terrified of her, but she’s just better when she’s getting along with Frank. I also have to say that I love Claire’s mother. She doesn’t play a huge role but when she stared Claire straight in the eyes and told her she hopes Frank dies I got goose bumps. Straight cold blooded.

So how’s season 4? Like I said, after the first couple episodes I thought they should just pull the plug (pun intended), but I’m glad they didn’t because, like Frank, House of Cards is showing signs of life again! The introduction of Will Conway and Fam was exactly what the show needed. Just a great looking family that looks like the complete opposite of the Underwood’s but as we learn more about them they are just as power hungry. Cute kids, hot wife with a sexy British accent, and a great looking all-american Republican candidate, that’s the firepower needed to rival the Underwood’s. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m still team Underwood, but I can definitely see some HOC viewers jump on the Conway bandwagon and stir up a much needed HOC debate among viewers.
Other than the introduction of the Conway’s, Doug is showing signs of his old self again which is great to see. Frank needs his right hand man. It’s crazy how loyal Doug is to Frank,…I need to find someone like that.
So season 4 definitely has my attention after going into the season with some doubt, however, I’m still skeptical as to how long they can keep this show going for.
I’ve also been crushing The Walking Dead season 6 on Sunday nights. It is BY FAR the best season since The Governor died. The show hasn’t had a character who’s really rivaled Rick in a while now, Shane rivaled Rick, The Governor rivaled Rick, but now Rick has become that character!!! Is Rick the bad guy? I don’t know, and honestly, I don’t care! I just hope he keeps dropping people left and right, badass Rick is the best Rick, I don’t need to see him farming like he did at the prison.
I pretty much have the same take on The Walking Dead as I do on House of Cards. I was ready to pull out the Wrap It Up Box when all of a sudden POW! It’s been straight action since episode one. And that’s all I ask for from The Walking Dead at this point. The characters are all plenty developed, I don’t care about their issues of the past, or relationships between two character I could give two shits about, I want Rick, Mishome, Darrel and company in the trenches killing off Walkers and other settlements. And that’s exactly what Season 6 has been to this point. I also love how Rick has transformed so many other characters into badasses now. I did an complete 180 on Gabriel, he went from my least favorite character to one of my favorite. Love how he recites bible versus while killing people, that’s some Samuel Jackson in Pulp Fiction type shit. And I don’t think it’s stopping anytime soon either. I heard rumors that Negan doesn’t appear until the finale so I don’t believe for a second that guy Rick popped in the head was Negan. Negan’s not dead, and Negan’s probably gonna be pretty pissed off when he hears what Rick and Co. did and I could not be more excited about it.
The other thing Walking Dead has going for it is, like Game of Thrones, they’ve showed they are not afraid to kill off main characters. Legit anyone could die in any episode. That’s something most shows don’t have. Oh, the main characters in a tough spot? No chance, he’s getting killed. No, no, no, not in Walking Dead. Probably other than Rick I could see any of the core characters going at any time. Thought for sure Maggie was going down Sunday night.
In my Captain America: Civil War post I mentioned I have become dull to the action in Marvel films, well not in Walking Dead, keep the action coming! That is why I am a little nervous about Rick and Mishone hooking up, if they try to drag two of my three favorite characters into some relationship drama I’m not going to be happy. Just let them keep killing people, that’s what we want to see.
The third show I’ve been religiously watching lately is Better Call Saul on Monday nights, and honestly, I’m not sure why. Well that’s not true, I watch because it is a Breaking Bad spin-off, anything related to Breaking Bad is worth a shot, but Better Call Saul needs to pick it up. The first season started slow but picked up at the end with a couple cool Mike episodes. I was hoping they’d pick up where they left off but season 2 has been a snooze so far. They keep teasing us with Breaking Bad characters but nothing really ever happens. Like in last nights episode legit NOTHING HAPPENED! Yeah, they introduced Hector Salamanca at the end but I bet he doesn’t appear in another episode this season.
I’ve come to the conclusion that they just need to kill off Chuck and Kim because they are holding Jimmy back. I don’t care about Jimmy McGill, give me Saul Goodman!! I have nothing against Kim but the simple fact that she’s not in Breaking Bad means shes not around when Saul Goodman breaks loose. Jimmy’s interest in her is the only thing keeping him from becoming Saul Goodman at this point anyways. But Chuck, I hate Chuck. With Kim I’d be fine if they just write her off, but I honestly hope Chuck dies. I don’t care if he pops like a zit due to over exposure to electricity or if Tuco shoots him in the face, but I need Chuck gone.
